Summary
** Out of stock today, more are on the way, the supplier says they will be with us by 22 December (in time for Christmas). Our guess is that this is 50:50, they might not arrive until after Christmas (we reopen on 5 January). **
The PRO (professional) model is the most sophisticated. For the professional dealing with several thousand pounds-worth of gold per day this is not expensive and it has the most features.
Two modes, standard and enhanced.
- Standard mode shows the nearest 'standard' carat: 8K or 10K (because it's American), 14K, 18K, 22K or 24K. Also displays a bar graph showing how close it is to the standard carat.*
- Enhanced mode shows the proportion of gold (in parts per thousand) - but not rounded to the nearest purity used in jewellery, so it's a more accurate reading.
- The PRO model is for the professional: you will understand 'carat' and 'parts per thousand'; you will know that if the bar graph shows your item to be at the top range of 8ct or bottom range of 10ct, then it must be 9ct. If this confuses you, please go for the simpler ANALYSER model instead.

Detail
- Size 145 X 105 X 30mm (5.75 X 4 X 1.25 inches)
- No acids involved, the probe contains a harmless salt solution.
- Tests gold from 8ct to 24ct (the scale is marked "K" instead of "ct" because it's American)
- Pen-probe provides up to 5000 tests.
- Simply touch pen probe to the item, result is shown in 2 or 3 seconds, very fast
- Easy one-touch calibration with a sample of 18ct - not included
- Works on battery or mains, mains adaptor (power supply) included)
- As with every tester (whether you spend £100.00 or £12,000.00) it only tests the surface. This means you must file the surface with a fine needle-file (supplied with each tester) in a place where it won't show, to remove any surface plating.
- Guarantee: 1 year
NOTES:
- A pen-probe is included, there is no need to order one from OPTIONAL EXTRAS unless you want a spare.
- The tester will require calibrating regularly, you will need a calibration sample. This is not included. You can use any 18ct yellow gold that has a full British hallmark; if you deal in jewellery/scrap you will have some - otherwise, please add an 18ct calibration sample from OPTIONAL EXTRAS.
- We don't advertise this as being able to test for platinum because the 'platinum' reading is not reliable.
Reliability
We started selling these in October. As of Christmas we've had two returned as 'not accurate'. When we tested them they were absolutely perfect. Our conclusion is that these are not as easy to use as the ANALYZER. Please see the REVIEWS.
Extras
INCLUDED WITH EVERY PRO:
At the moment we include the following (they don't come as 'standard'):
- Carrying pouch
- Gold-polishing cloth
- Hallmark card
- UK power supply for mains operation
If you order online (not by phone or email) you will also have the option of selecting a free gift.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS:
A pen-probe is included, if you want a spare, select it from "Optional Extras".
You will need a sample of 18ct yellow gold (it must be exactly 18ct). This is to 'match' the electronics in the tester reading on the display (technical term: calibration). As a professional jeweller you will have some 18ct hallmarked yellow gold. If not, an 18ct calibration sample is available from us, see OPTIONAL EXTRAS.
Reliability
The tester is guaranteed for one year.
- new item as of late 2025, we do need to be selling these for a few months to get feedback (we do tell you which items are reliable and which are not!) - that it has the same electronics as the famous KEE tester (now discontinued) is a good sign, since the KEE was the most reliable tester we have ever sld.
Pen-probe
A pen-probe is included with your purchase, if you want a spare, click on View Optional Extras. The pen-probe is guaranteed for one month.
A pen-probe is like a felt pen, if you don't replace the cap firmly it dries out. The manufacturers say it will give "up to 6000 tests". They also say it should be replaced after a year.
