Summary
Replacement pen-probe for electronic gold tester.
Please take care to order the correct pen-probe, this one is for:
- Auracle Analyzer
- Auracle PRO.
With light use, how long should a pen-probe last?
The manufacturers say it should be replaced after a year - but if it's still giving correct readings (check against your calibration sample or any hallmarked gold) then it's fine, no matter how old it is. They do, however, dry up eventually, even if not used. If you remove the cap for the first time after two or three years, there's a high chance it will have dried up.
How many tests will pen-probe give?
We sold several thousand pen-probes for the predecessor of these models (the KEE tester, officially "up to 3000 tests") and customers reported that they would last anywhere from 6 weeks to 18 months, giving between 200 and 3000 tests. The ANALYZER and PRO use a different pen-probe, the manufacturers say they last longer, "up to 6000" tests.
Guarantee
The manufacturers say it will give "up to 6000 tests." Our guarantee is for one month irrespective of how many tests have been carried out. We will exchange it providing it is not squished out of shape (be gentle!) and providing it is not black with dirt.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
Good morning I would like to ask which magnifying glass and which acid set to buy ? I am just starting . I ordered magnifying glass from Amazon x30 and had to return . Had a set of acids from Amazon it was ok and I used . I am just looking to buy some jewellery for myself . Not interested in diamonds . Just yellow gold 18 carat and above . I looked at your Pen Probe but it says it will test 600 times and "expires" ? Does it mean that if I test 60 times per a year it will last me 10 years ? I like old gold jeweller so would like to test before bying at second had shops etc . I thank you in advance. I not interested in diamonds . Only yellow gold .
THE PROBE: yes, 'up to 600 tests' so, in theory, the pen could last several years. But it won't. Because, very gradually, the solution will dry out, which is why they say it should (with light use) last about a year.
WHICH MAGNIFIER TO BUY: best choice 10X20. See all standard jewellery loupes. Or for guidance on how to choose a loupe (including photos of what you see through each, How to choose a loupe.
WHICH ACID TESTER: Try the Troytest (4-bottle set). See all acid sets. Or for guidance see our Guide to Chemical Testers. Note, the electronic testers are not accurate over 18ct, acids are better, very accurate.
