Summary

*** Out of stock. More are on the way to us (dispatched from USA on 11 March), they should be with us by 19 March. ***

The PRO (professional) model is the most sophisticated. For the professional dealing with several thousand pounds-worth of gold per day this is not expensive and it has the most features.

Two modes, standard and enhanced

  • Standard mode shows the nearest 'standard' carat: 8K or 10K (because it's American), 14K, 18K, 22K or 24K.  Also displays a bar graph showing how close it is to the standard carat.
  • Enhanced mode shows the proportion of gold (in percentage) rather than the standard carats used in jewellery.  HOWEVER, this percentage reading isn't very accurate. It's good if you are buying dozens of items per day - before you send it to be melted retest everything in Advanced mode, calculate the actual gold value of the entire batch, compare it with how much you paid. If none of this applies to you (or if you don't understand it!) you will have no use for the Advanced mode and may wish to go for the ANALYSER model instead. See ANALYZER AND PRO COMPARED for details of accuracy when using the PRO in Advanced mode.

Want to know more about the PRO? See more information about the PRO including pros-and-cons, and hints and tips.

Not sure whether to go for this model or the other model (ANALYZER)?  See ANALYZER and PRO compared.

Detail

  • Size 145 X 105 X 30mm (5.75 X 4 X 1.25 inches)
  • No acids involved, the probe contains a harmless salt solution.
  • Tests gold from 8ct to 24ct (the scale is marked "K" instead of "ct" because it's American)
  • Pen-probe provides up to 5000 tests (then you buy a replacement pen-probe)
  • Simply touch pen probe to the item, result is shown in 2 or 3 seconds, very fast
  • Easy one-touch calibration with a sample of 18ct - not included
  • Works on battery or mains, mains adaptor (power supply) included)
  • As with every tester (whether you spend £100.00 or £12,000.00) it only tests the surface. This means you must file the surface with a fine needle-file (supplied with each tester) in a place where it won't show, to remove any surface plating.
  • Guarantee: 1 year

NOTES:

  • A pen-probe is included, there is no need to order one from OPTIONAL EXTRAS unless you want a spare.
  • The tester will require calibrating regularly, you will need a calibration sample. This  is not included. You can use any 18ct yellow gold that has a full British hallmark; if you deal in jewellery/scrap you will have some - otherwise, please add an 18ct calibration sample from OPTIONAL EXTRAS.
  • We don't advertise this as being able to test for platinum because the 'platinum' reading is not reliable.

Extras

INCLUDED WITH EVERY PRO (these don't come as 'standard'):

    • Carrying pouch
    • Gold-polishing cloth
    • Hallmark card
    • UK power supply for mains operation

If you order online (not by phone or email) you will also have the option of selecting a  free gift.

    OPTIONAL EXTRAS:

A pen-probe is included, if you want a spare, select it from "Optional Extras".

You will need a sample of 18ct yellow gold (it must be exactly 18ct). This is to 'match' the electronics in the tester reading on the display (technical term: calibration). As a professional jeweller you will have some 18ct hallmarked yellow gold. If not, an 18ct calibration sample is available from us, see OPTIONAL EXTRAS.

    Pen-probe

A pen-probe is included with your purchase, if you want a spare, click on View Optional Extras.  The pen-probe is guaranteed for one month.

A pen-probe is like a felt pen, if you don't replace the cap firmly it dries out. The manufacturers say it will give "up to 6000 tests". They also say it should be replaced after a year.

    See more details about pen-probes.

        QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

        Ask a Question
        • Is it possible to test 6-karat gold? Or do you have another solution for testing 6-karat gold? Apakah bisa untuk menguji emas 6karat? Atau punya solusi lain untuk uji emas 6karat

You can see on the LED lights all carats between zero and 10ct but this is not very accurate, you will not see if it's exactly 6ct.

        • Will that machine test 9ct gold or it starts from 10ct-24ct ?

          Yes it tests 9ct.

The range of lights in the "10ct" area of lights is large (see the picture with the product) so slightly under the exact "10ct" mark means 9ct.

        • Hi, I purchased this item early this morning under anwar@karbani.co.uk need to test for gold, silver, platinum if possible palladium. But mainly gold jewellery. Will this test for gold plated jewellery? And silver, platinum?? If not do you have another tester which will at least test for gold plated jewellery and gold au750 if you can put a temporary hold until I have replied back with to you with correct model.

It tests all carats of gold (including .750) but not silver. It says it tests platinum but we find this test unreliable, e.g. it can't tell platinum from Palladium. The next model (which we don't sell) is a technology called XRF, simple models from £12,000.00, sophisticated models £40,000.00.

It will test plated jewellery but it won't test through the plating, you must file the surface first. This applies to all electronic testers, even XRF (though XRF will test through very thin plating)..

        • Hi There we have Kee tester in our buisness do you think this one is better ? Kind Regards Allan

          Yes, top model
