Of our two microscopes this is the more powerful (at maximum zoom) and with the most flexible lighting. Magnification - from 10X to 40X.
The flexible lighting also makes this a good choice for gemstones without having to go to the expense of a dedicated gemmological microscope.

Lighting: you can switch between reflected lighting (the 45 degree light), transmitted lighting (under the stage) or both together (or no lights at all) and there is a dimmer switch so you adjust the lighting from nearly zero to very bright. This flexibility (especially with the dimmer switch) makes this an ideal microscope for gemstones, and costs far less than a 'dedicated' gemmological microscope.
From about 10X this is a general 'inspection' microscope, for gemstones, stamps, coins...everything you might use a jeweller's loupe for (but much better optical quality!).
