Comments

In addition to the white light, this has a very effective UV light (not all UV lights in loupes are effective!) for examining stamps, banknotes, gemstones etc (there are many uses, see our article about UV lights).

Light is as important as magnification, without a good light the best loupe is of little use. Sitting at a desk this isn't a problem, use any table light; working as a gemmologist you will have your own light source, but working at dimly-lit auction halls or early morning markets - you will need a light!

The light in this loupe is in the form of a 'rim' all the way around the lens, which is much better than 'spot' lights which can cause reflections and make it more difficult to see.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • The product triplet loupe with UV light has sw and long wave both UV light wavelengths or only one wavelength. Please reply my question as soon as possible waiting for your reply anxiously

    Longwave.

  • How does this compare optically to the 10x21 with rim light? Are they pretty much similar quality? (I doubt I really need the UV but I do want a bigger loupe + illumination than my existing 10x12 I got from you)

I knew that the two lenses (this 10X20 and the 10X21-L2) were about the same in quality. But to get you a precise answer I fetched one of each from the warehouse and spent a few minutes comparing them.  To my surprise (because I can see subtle differences in lenses) they are identical. The field of view / magnification / ease of focus is identical; the distortion (i.e. at the very edge of the lens) is absolutely nominal with both; the brightness and contrast is the same. Although these come from different suppliers in China, I suspect that the lenses are the same.

I was using the 10X21-L without the light (so that I was comparing like-with-like);  if you are working in dim conditions the addition of a light makes an immense difference. Apart from that, the two are identical.

  • 1. Does this loupe have ultraviolet mode? 2. Is the ultraviolet mode considered excellent? 3. I currently have a 20X loupe. How does this compare, and what is its magnification, when you infer 10X20 magnification.

    1) Yes. As stated in the name of the product: "10X20 triplet loupe with UV light + white rim of light"

    2) Yes

    3) 10X with 20mm diameter lens, hence "10X20"

  • 10X20 triplet loupe with UV light + white rim of light: what replacement batteries does this loupe require? Unfortunately we have lost the old batteries which were spent and we need to replace them! Many thanks.

It takes three batteries, size 395.
It's a standard button battery, anywhere selling watch batteries will have these.
When you change them, take care not to break the battery contact in the loupe.
