Magnifications
There's a box of five lenses, each of a different magnification and working distance. You can clip them onto the visor singly or in pairs (add the two magnifications); in addition you can swing down the extra-high-power magnifier. NOTES:
- The 1X lens gives no magnification on its own (it does magnify slightly, on objects 500mm away, but your arms are not that long)
- You will lose stereo vision if you get too close to the object. For those with normal vision this is somewhere between 50 and 70mm. 6X magnification is, about the strongest (closest working distance) you can get if you want to maintain stereo vision.
Applications
Long working distance (lower magnifications) with the main lenses for
-
Crafts: model-painting, hand-stitching, beading, general jewellery-making, fly-tying, crochet, leather stamping.
-
Professional: electrical, art and antiques restorations on larger objects, lathe work with larger items, changing most watch batteries / straps.
Higher magnifications (shorter working distances) with the main lenses for
- Crafts: antiques and DIY repairs, jewellery and general watch work (batteries and straps), hobby and crafts, electrical work.
-
Professional: watch repairing (including changing very tiny batteries), small jewellery repairs/soldering, PCB inspection/micro-soldering, mould-making, lathe work with smaller items, painting miniatures, paintings and fabrics restoration.
Highest magnifications with the auxiliary lens
- Instead of checking your work periodically with a jewellers loupe, it's handy to swing the auxiliary lens down for very close inspection, then flip it back out the way and continue working.
