** the tank size and platform size limits the maximum size of the item you can test **

Method: measuring density, also known as specific gravity.

The test involves only water, you do not have to file the coin (which you must do when using both acids and electronic testers) - read my short article about how it works.

This is a one-off product, it's a sample. It is an old model, it's replacement is MDS-3000, available on the internet (not from us!) at $2950.00 (about £2300.00) + tax. I decided not to sell these as a regular line, because I don't think my particular customers would pay this much...so I just want to get rid of the sample, and that's why it's so cheap.

Ease-of-use

Once it is set up and you know what you're doing, each test really does take only a couple of minutes, but please do not ask, "Is it easy to use", you do have to put a little work into this. This is what to expect when you first open the box:

15mns to very carefully unpack and assemble it

25mns to study the instruction manual and work out what to do

15mns minutes for the machine to warm up

5mns to carry out the first test.

If you leave it set up, and once you know what you're doing, each test should take 1 to  2mns!

Support

We have tested this thoroughly and we know it works fine. However, this is a one-off product and, unlike our regular items, we cannot give after-sales support. We wouldn't know if you are setting it up correctly or using it correctly or what the readings mean for the particular item you are testing.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Do you provide anything that can replace mercury as a liquid in the densimeter?

There is no mercury in the densimeter, you use distilled water for testing gold and gemstones.
If you are saying you want to use mercury and is there an alternative - I've no idea.
