The chain is for the purpose of hanging the magnifier around the neck, it is not intended as an item of jewellery to be worn against the skin. This is because it has not been tested for nickel content. Nickel leaking into the skin can cause a rash. Nickel is now banned for items that will be in 'intimate and prolonged' contact with the skin.
