Why?

Q. This item is discontinued.  Why?

A. Because it's been superseded by other models.

Technical

Magnification / lens size in mm: 3X35

Field of view: vertically, 4 or 5 lines; horizontally 2 or 3 words.

Lens material: plastic

Origin / brand: we imported these China

Casing: folds into a hard plastic case

Presentation: cardboard sleeve in a printed cardboard box, and the finish on the actual magnifier is very nice and it has an extra vinyl sleeve - really posh, nice to give as a present.

Applications

Generally, these are the best 'general purpose' magnifiers; they are larger than the tiny super-powerful loupes used for hallmarks, gemstones, coins, and stamps; they are pocket-size unlike most readers for books and newspapers; they are 'general purpose'; they are for reading text (be it the small print on a form or a tin in a supermarket), marks (e.g. on furniture or porcelain), larger insects and plants (spiders and leaves)...anything.

Specifically, nicely presented, you could give this to someone as a present and it looks "substantial".
