I would recommend this as a good general purpose reader for those just beginning to lose their sight, it certainly gives more than 'just a little help'…though those with severe sight problems may wish to try something stronger.
For me, this is my favourite. The combination of large lens and powerful evenly-illuminated light makes it a pleasure to use.

For those who need 'just a little help' with reading (including map reading in the car at night) this is a good choice, it folds neatly into its case, many on my 'testing panel' liked this, they said it worked for them, they said some of the more expensive magnifiers were 'too strong".

'Lightmagic' illuminated Magnifier with 2-bulb illumination

70mm X 50mm lens, about 3X magnification, a light each side of the lens (takes 2X AAA batteries not included) gives even illumination, can be tilted up and down at any angle.
The 'original' was designed to clip to an electronic toy called LIGHTMAGIC [do they still make them??]...and we have adapted some to take a handle. OK, so the version with the handle does look home-made, but for £3.53 you get a good quality lens with effective lighting.
