YOUR DETAILS ON OUR MAILING LIST

Your details / email address will be on our mailing list because:
  • You have requested information / placed and order / made a purchase
  • We picked up (or were given) your visiting card, leaflet etc (businesses only)
  • A friend or colleague of yours asked us to send you information
  • You have bought from us on eBay or have enquired about a non-eBay item

IF YOU WISH YOUR RECORD TO BE REMOVED

We are always happy to removed the details ('delete the record') of anyone who is not interested in our products.

If you are not interested in our products, ask us to REMOVE your record from our system.

If you would like snail mail mailings but not email mailings, or if you would like email mailings but not snail mail mailings, let us know and we will mark your record accordingly.

The main problem we encounter is not irate customers complaining that they can't stop the circulars coming, but quite the reverse. If we send a circular and it is returned for ANY reason (often an error on the part of Royal Mail) we will automatically delete the record. If an email 'bounces back' (often due to a fault on the server) we will automatically delete the email address from our records. The customer then complains that they no longer receive circulars.

It does, however, very occasionally happen that your details are entered twice. For instance, some letters are returned to us several weeks after posting, by which time we have sent another; or (for reasons of us being only human) your address is accidentally re-entered. I can only apologise if this happens, please let us know and we will again delete your details.

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE KEEP ABOUT YOU ON OUR DATABASE?

In nearly all cases the only information we hold about you is your name and address so that we can print addresses for envelopes for posting out information, plus a code that tells us what to put in the envelope. These codes are often printed in tiney letters above tthe address:

A Testers, magnifiers, balances, books, tools, jewellery boxes, accessories

T Telescopes, binoculars etc, secondhand and new (we do not separate 'secondhand' and 'new')

Please let us know if you are on the wrong list.

We divide code 'A' into two categories:

B Business (shops, antiques centres, auctions, known businesses)

P Personal (everyone else)

The purpose of 'B' and 'P' is so that we can send extra mailshots of trade equipment (testers and accessories specifically for fairs, markets, shops and auctions) to Bbusinesses.

These categories are very approximate. We have no way of knowing that "Joe Blogg" is a full time professional dealer with an annual turnover of two million pounds; we have no way of knowing that "Import Export International" is just a letterhead a schoolchild made up for fun. If you would like to check your category you are more than welcome to telephone, write or email, and you may tell us which category you prefer.

In addition we sometimes enter your telephone number and email address. There is also the facility to enter notes against your details (e.g. a summary of any letters or telephone calls). If you would like a copy of your entire record (including any notes) please send £1.00. Please be aware that for this £1.00 you will almost certainly discover that the only information we have is your name and address.

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE KEEP ABOUT YOU ON OUR  ACCOUNTS SYSTEM?

If you have ever made a purchase, details of the transaction will be on our accounts system. You will have received an invoice or credit note (the original invoice will have been inside a pouch marked DOCUMENTS ENCLOSED on the outside of the parcel ).  Accounts information is kept for 2 to 3 years. There is no charge for copies of invoices and credit notes.

A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT eBay

Your details will not be entered onto our system if:

- you bid on an item but don't win it
- you email a QUESTION through eBay
- you email directly to request more information about the eBay item
- you buy an item that is not part of our business (e.g. old office equipment)

Your details will be entered onto our system if:

- you are the winner of an item that is part of our stock
- you contact us to ask about stock that is not on eBay
- you enter into general correspondence about our stock and similar items

...but please remember: your record may be deleted from our records if you wish! (see above).

ANYTHING ELSE?

If you pay for goods by cheque we use a company called EQUIFAX to 'guarantee' the cheque.   Once guaranteed, EQUIFAX will pay us the money if the cheque is returned.  We are therefore are able to send goods before we have even BANKED a cheque, let alone waited for it to clear.

EQUIFAX do not give us ANY information about you, if there is a problem with a cheque you are asked to contact them directly, but you need to know the following:

If your cheque is returned unpaid we must provide EQUIFAX with your name and address, and EQUIFAX will record this information and use it to decide whether to guarantee your present and future cheques.  Equifax may share their information with their Credit Reference division and subscribers to to their Credit Reference division in order to:

  • evaluate applications for credit made by you and family members of your household
  • manage credit facilities held by you and family members of your household
  • contact you to recover any debt owed
  • prevent fraud

EQUIFAX will charge you a fee if your cheque is dishonoured.

If you do not want us to call EQUIFAX with your cheque details, write on the back of the cheque "Do not Equifax" and we will wait for the cheque to clear in the normal way.
