For hobby work in poor lighting conditions, wonderful; for DIY (e.g. working in a fuse cupboard) essential.
For reading there tends to be two attitudes. One is: incredible, no matter how you sit or lie the light will be pointing in the right direction, the light really does make a difference! The other is: too fiddly, you have to fiddle with a tiny switch to turn it on and if you have a good reading light, what's the point?
