Most adhesives are designed so that the item will never ever come apart, and the consequence with jewellery is that it can never be repaired again without destroying the stone and part of the item. This special 'soft' adhesive fixes stones quite firmly (they won't fall out!) but you can, at a later date, force them out, scrape away the remnants of the adhesive, and start again.
