Standard Pliers (snub nose and chain nose)Standard Pliers (snub nose and chain nose)

There are two basic shapes, snub-nose has flat end and chain-nose has a pointed end. Snub-nose TEND to be easier for gripping larger items and chain-nose for holding very fine objects such as very fine links in chains, but there is no 'rule', use whichever is the most comfortable. Whichever you choose, you will need two - one to hold the item steady and the other to do the work. The higher the price the better the quality.
Standard Cutters (end cutters and side cutters)Standard Cutters (end cutters and side cutters)

There are two basic shapes, 'end' and 'side' - end cutters have a flat top, good for cutting-and-pulling and quick-dismantling (e.g. separating scrap); side cutters are better for getting into small spaces (e.g. snipping one link on a fine chain). All cutters are made of steel, they are for cutting SOFT metals such as gold, silver and brass-based alloys, if you try to cut steel you will damage the cutters. The higher the price the better the quality.

There are now many and wondrous 'gadgets' in the form of pliers and cutters: for holding rings, closing jump rings, turning wire (e.g. to make ear-wires) etc etc.

You will find pliers and cutters for watch straps and spring lugs under WATCH TOOLS.
