 | - with handles
For reading books and papers (and excellent for anyone reading a map in a car) I recommend the two large magnifiers (125X1.1 or 125X125).
For the partially-sighted the two Russian magnifiers are very powerful but nothing special in quality, the three Zeiss magnifiers are lightweight and the best quality (sharp image with good contrast and no distortion - it makes a difference!), or scroll to the bottom for the cheapest.

|
 | - rests on page
Good choice for prolonged reading for the partially-sighted, small but powerful.

|
 | - magnifying plastic sheets, Fresnel
Fresnel is a thin sheet of plastic engineered so that it becomes a magnifier. They can be tiny (the size of a credit card) or huge (the size of a page). The quality of these is NOT as good as traditional lenses.

|
 | - illuminated
Lighting is as important as magnification and lens quality.
For the partially-sighted I recommend either the 2X-80X80 / Hand Reader, large, adjustable, with four lights (largest), or the 2XLED / Hand magnifier, folding, powerful LED light (most powerful but not so large). |
