Often, you get false readings on Moissanite if the stone is greasy. It is not good enough to wipe it on your shirt! It must be de-greased with an alcohol such as isopropyl, using a cotton wool bud or a tissue.

Just give it a quick wipe and wait a few seconds for it to dry. Any alcohol will do, but isopropyl comes in a neat little bottle along with cotton wool buds.
